How can a single individual make a difference in the world? By being a Trim Tab
During the second World War, Buckminster Fuller (Bucky) was commissioned to solve a critical engineering problem. As the war raged on, ever-larger battle ships were needed at sea, but their steering mechanisms required more power to turn the rudder than their engine could produce. Bucky’s radical invention not only solved this crucial military problem, but it created a new paradigm for human greatness.
Bucky’s invention was called a “Trimtab”. It was a small six-inch wide strip of metal attached by hinges to the trailing edge of a ship’s rudder. The engine’s hydraulics move the Trimtab into the path of oncoming water, the pressure generated against it assists the rudder to turn and this shifts the whole direction of the ship. Bucky posed that like this tiny sliver of metal, that can alter the course of a great ship, you and I as individuals can alter the course of humanity.
Trim Tab Architecture proposes to do just that. We are a small company with big intentions. We create honest and expressive architecture that is innovative, sustainable and fits the needs of each individual client. With just small changes, we can make a big difference.
